Overhaul Services

Is it time for a complete reconditioning of your clarinet? If so, we have the overhaul service that's right for you. Overhauling a clarinet is more than simply replacing all of the pads corks. We look at overhauls as a chance to get the absolute most out of your clarinet. This includes correcting imperfections from the factory, refitting keywork and selecting the right materials to get the absolute most out of your clarinet!

At ClarinetRepairs.com, we specialize in your clarinet and getting every iota of response, sound & presence from your clarinet. We guarantee that when we are done, you will be blown away by your instrument as it will play better than it ever has, even better than when it was new!

Student Clarinets - Repads & Overhauls
Student clarinets commonly use a very low quality pad that within 3-5 years are shot and need to be replaced. We offer both repads & overhauls on student clarinets. A repad is for the clarinet that overall has been kept in good condition but is simply in need of new pads. An overhaul is for the clarinet that also needs cleaning, corks & felts.

This job takes 5-7 days on average to complete and carries a 1 year ClarinetRepairs.com warranty.

Student Repad - $165.00 (add $30 for Master Series pads in upper joint)
Complete Overhaul - $225.00 (add $30 for Master Series pads in upper joint)

Standard Overhaul - Wood Clarinets
Our Standard Overhaul service is perfect for most wood clarinets. This overhaul includes a complete tear down of the clarinet with buffing of the keys and treating & oiling of the wood. This is best for newer clarinets that have simply outgrown their first set of pads. We check all of the tone holes of the clarinet to make sure that they are in good condition. If needed, we will resurface & profile 2-3 toneholes (click here for more info on this) as needed to ensure proper pad seal.

The clarinet is fitted with double skin pads in both joints. Custom pad upgrades can be done as well (leather, kangaroo leather, cork, Straubinger, black Valentino) for additional cost (call for quote). The most common upgrade is putting Valentino Master Series pads in the upper joint at an additional cost of $30.00

This job takes 5-7 days on average to complete and carries a 1 year ClarinetRepairs.com warranty.

   Complete Overhaul - $325.00

ClarinetRepairs.com Pro Shop Overhaul
This is our premier overhaul. This job includes all of the aspects of our Standard Overhaul but also includes bore polishing, checking and surfacing of all toneholes and complete mechanism refit (all keys) to ensure that you clarinet is not only the most impressive playing clarinet that it can be but also the most mechanically sound that it can be.

"MasteRoo" is our premium pad selection used by default in our ProShop Overhaul service. Through our many years of testing, we have found that this combination gives your clarinet its ultimate response and maximum tonal performance with a rich, resonant lower register and a powerful & clean upper register.

The upper joint is outfitted with Valentino Master Series pads and the lower joint is outfitted with white kangaroo leather pads. Together, they give a solid feel, quiet physical performance & exceptional stability & life. However, since pads can affect the tonality and performance of the instrument, we can equip your clarinet with a myriad of other pad options including Cork, Double Skin, Triple Skin, GoreTex, White Leather, Valentino Black & Straubinger pads. Some of these options are more expensive for us to purchase as well as take longer to install, so some pad options will increase overall price.

$6,000+ clarinets do not come from the factory in the condition that we put a clarinet in with our Pro Shop Overhaul.

This job takes 7-10 days on average to complete and carries a 1 year ClarinetRepairs.com warranty.

ClarinetRepairs.com Pro Shop Overhaul - $450.00 (additional pad options available, call for price)

Here's what a recent professional had to say about his clarinet after it went through our Pro Shop Overhaul Service:
"Hi Dave, I just wanted to thank you, your dad and the entire Kessler repair team for the INCREDIBLE job you did overhauling my Buffet R13 Bb clarinet.  I thought this horn was pretty well blown out and would have to be replaced.  You convinced me to try your new pro shop overhaul, and man, am I ever glad I took your advice!  It's tight, consistent across all registers and the depth and focus in the sound are completely back!  It plays better now than it ever did. I've been comparing it to new Toscas, Rossis and Prestiges that friends and colleagues are playing.  Those are certainly terrific clarinets, but in every case, I'm very happy to get back to my old nickel key, plain vanilla R13, made in 1990.  My A clarinet is on its way to you right now.  I can't wait to play it!" - Mark Margolies, San Diego

ClarinetRepairs.com Additional Services
While repairing your clarinet, we can provide several other repair/instrument enhancements. For example, if you would like a new adjustable thumb rest, or a thumb rest with a strap ring, we can help.

Another popular option is a middle tenon sleeve. Many times the middle tenon on the upper joint gets loose due to technicians improperly sanding the cork. They will sand a new cork down but the do it at an angle where they are also sanding down the edge of the wood. This makes the clarinet wobble at the center joint even with a tight cork. In these cases, we can build a custom hard rubber tenon sleeve that will restore the original factory fit of the joint but without affecting the performance of the clarinet, as the internal bore is not changed with the new sleeve.

We can also provide plating services as well. Whatever you want, we can make happen! If you have something in mind that hasn't already been covered, let us know!
